Allergy and Homeopathy

To understand the relation between allergy and homeopathy, it is first important to understand what allergy means!

Allergy is a very individual or to-each-his-own medical condition. Put simply, what your body may be allergic to, the other person may not be and the other way round. Allergy is a sudden hypersensitive reaction that presents with many symptoms following contact with an allergen.

What is an allergen?

Allergen is an agent that is harmful to a sensitive or allergic person but does not have any effect on others. The main allergens are dust, mites, pollens, animal danders and certain food items like eggs.

An allergy is an immune system response to a foreign substance that’s not typically harmful to your body. Immune system’s job is to keep the body healthy by fighting harmful pathogens. It is done by attacking anything it thinks could put your body in danger. This response may involve inflammation, sneezing, or a host of other symptoms. Immune system normally adjusts to individual’s environment. For example, when your body encounters something like pet dander, it should realize it’s harmless. In people with dander allergies, the immune system perceives it as an outside invader threatening the body and attacks it.

Types of allergies include:

  1. Food Allergies
  2. Seasonal Allergies
  3. Severe Allergies like anaphylactic shock
  4. Skin Allergies which include Rashes, Eczema, Dermatitis, Sore Throat, Hives, Swollen eyes, Itching, Burning
  5. Dust Allergy
  6. Nasal Allergy
  7. Allergic Cough

Causes of allergies:

Common types of allergens include:

  1. Animal products- include pet dander, dust mite waste, and cockroaches.
  2. Drugs such as Penicillin and sulfa drugs etc.
  3. Foods such as wheat, nuts, milk, shellfish, and egg allergies are common.
  4. Insect stings include bees, wasps, and mosquitoes.
  5. Mold include airborne spores from mold can trigger a reaction.
  6. Plants like Pollens from grass, weeds, and trees, as well as resin from plants such as poison ivy and poison oak, are common plant allergens.
  7. Other allergens include Latex, often found in latex gloves and condoms, and metals like nickel etc.

Seasonal allergies, also known as hay fever, are some of the most common allergies. These are caused by pollen released by plants. They cause:

  • itchy eyes
  • watery eyes
  • runny nose
  • coughing

Allergy and Homeopathy

The Homeopathic remedies for allergy not only provides relief in acute attacks, and also works to cure by taking out the root cause of it. The Homeopathic treatment of allergy is very effective since it is based on case taking and individualizing the patient.

Some medicines include Apis, Belladona, Phosphorus, Arsenic, Natrum Mur, Sulphur, Psorinum, Sepia, Pulsatilla etc. But ofcourse, the type of medicine depends on the patient physical and mental structure which will be assessed by the doctor during the case taking.
